Billie Karen Cook Scharfenstein, 73, passed away September 4, 2018 at her home in Baton Rouge, LA after a short illness. Karen was born in Cuthbert, GA on November 12, 1944. She graduated from Edison High School and went on to earn a degree from Georgia Southwestern in Americus, GA. She received her degree in Early Childhood Education and she taught school in Georgia and Louisiana along with creating many paintings displaying her artistic abilities. She was a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Karen is survived by her daughters Traci Aycock (Tony) of DeSoto, GA and Stacey Scharfenstein Kelley (JC) of Baton Rouge, LA, grandchildren Matieal & AJ Aycock of Leesburg, GA , Jennifer Cox of Donalsonville, GA, and Cameron Curtis of Baton Rouge, LA. She is survived also by sisters, Kim Stephens of Jonesboro, GA and Joy Sanders of Houma, LA , brother, Bob Cook and sister-in-law Kelley of Ozark, Alabama. She was preceded in death by husband Spencer Scharfenstein, brother Shannon Cook, and parents Robert and Edna Cook. Visitation will be held at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Dr., Baton Rouge, LA, on September 7, 2018, from 10:30 to 11 with services immediately following.
