Carlton Wade Johnson, a native of Elmore County, AL and a long time
resident of the Alexandria / Pineville, LA area passed away at his home in
Gonzales, LA on Wednesday evening, September 6, 2023 at the age of 90.
He leaves a legacy of love and dedication to his family, his church and
countless animals over the years. Wade never met a stranger, and this
served him well not only in his service in the U.S. Navy, but in his successful
and devoted career as a Sales Manager for Mason Corporation. He was full
of energy and always on the go, whether in his car as he covered the
roadways of Louisiana, Mississippi and East Texas, or jogging country roads
near his home where he would sometimes return carrying or leading a stray
dog. He will be greatly cherished as a devoted husband to his wife, father to
his children, and as beloved “Paw Paw” to the grandkids. He also greatly
enjoyed bird (quail) hunting with his pointers and was an avid Alabama
Crimson Tide football fan. Wade is survived by his wife of over 66 years, the
love of his life and his right hand in most everything, Jeanette Richburg
Johnson of Pike County, AL; his sister Loreda Nelson of Marbury, AL; three
children - Brent Johnson (Alice) of Houston, TX, Kyle Johnson (Angela) of
Plano, TX, and Jana Johnson O’Banion (Joe) of Gonzales, LA; five
grandchildren - Carlton Johnson (Rose) of Temple, TX, Cameron Johnson of
Los Angeles, CA, Caitlin O’Banion Womack (Craig) of Birmingham, AL,
Sydney O’Banion Patton (Todd) of Central, LA, Alicia Pickens (Chris) of
Oakwood, TX; seven great grandchildren - Kennedy and Keegan Johnson,
Jace Cottrell, Jo-Jo, Lawson, Memphis, and Lincoln Pickens, plus a Patton
baby boy on the way. Wade is preceded in death by his parents Marvin and
Alberta (Wilson) Johnson, and brother-in-law, Bill Nelson. A private service
will take place at Louisiana National (Veterans) Cemetery followed by a
celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
you consider a donation to the Carlton Wade Johnson Memorial Fund at The
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital of Memphis, TN.
