Teenie was a devout member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church performing various roles of service since the formation of the parish. Nursing was a calling to her, and she attended and graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing shortly after high school. She continued her education by graduating from Northwestern State University, and the School of Public Health at Peabody College. She served East Baton Rouge Parish as a public health nurse for 30 years before embarking on a second career as a health surveyor for the Head Start program. She was a lifelong nurse, showing care and concern for anyone who sought her advice. She was small, but mighty. Completely devoted to her family, she was the consummate care giver and provider. Each Sunday at ‘The Big House’ was a multi-family, multi-generational gathering filled with love, laughter and Teenie’s famous fried chicken. Admirably she cared for her late sister, Billie, just weeks before becoming ill herself. Her life modeled faith, selflessness, persistence, and the value in viewing people as good, all problems as solvable and each day as a gift from God.
