Curtis Cody McMorris, a native of Walker, Louisiana, was born August 25, 1985 and passed away Friday, October 2, 2020, after an ongoing battle with addiction.
Many knew Cody only through the lens of the addictions he fought so hard to overcome. That wasn’t the real Cody though. Those who were fortunate enough to truly know Cody would describe him as a selfless individual. Someone who would give the shirt off of his back to help a friend in need; one who never ended a conversation with those he cared for most without an “I love you;” and someone who considered his lifelong friends, his brothers. Cody was outgoing, charismatic, witty and above all, fiercely loyal.
Cody will be greatly missed by his father, Curtis McMorris; his stepfather, Michael Sasser; his son, Zayden; his sisters, Brittany Sasser Strother and her husband Kyle, and Lauren Sasser; his niece, Ella, and numerous extended family members and friends.
Cody is preceded in death by his mother, Lisa Chappell Sasser; his fiancé, Megan Alexandra Allen; his maternal grandparents, Rupert and Carol Chappell, and his paternal grandparents, Carter and Katherine McMorris.
Cody’s sisters believe that concealing his cause of death will help no one. They hope his story will help just one addict push even harder for another day of sobriety, encourage an active user to choose recovery, or shine a light on the opioid epidemic.
