Dawn Teuton Bates, 62, of Baton Rouge, LA, formerly of Martin, TN, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice. She was the daughter of the late Bill and Liz Teuton. Dawn was known for her love of food, recipes, music, and her animals. She had an extensive knowledge of food along with its history. Even so much as to taste a dish and tell you what herbs and spices it contained. She also used this love of food to help make family events even more special with her artistic plating and serving lines. Her love of music started early spinning records in college which included an interview with Jerry Lee Lewis before performing a show in Martin, TN and then found its way into one of her careers with Pop-Tunes and Cat’s Music in Memphis.
She is survived by her husband, James “Butch” Bates of Baton Rouge, LA, her daughter Tyla Mitchell Fowlkes (Dan) of Dyersburg, TN, and grandsons Zach Mullins of Knoxville, TN and Will Fowlkes of Dyersburg, TN. She is also survived by her Mother-in-law Yvonne Casey of Franklin, TN.
Cremation is under the direction of Church’s Funeral and Crematory in Baton Rouge, LA with a private family celebration of life to be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
