Dennis Craig Bair

It is with great sadness that the family of Dennis Craig Bair announce his passing on November 18, 2024, at the age of 79. He was in declining health for several years. Craig was a native of Indiana and was born in Indianapolis on July 17, 1945 and was currently a resident of St. Amant, Louisiana for 20 years.

Craig grew up in Danville, Indiana, graduated from Danville Community High School and continued his education at Purdue University with a degree in Landscape Architecture in 1967. Working for the Department of Natural Resources in Indianapolis, Craig retired after 35 years of service in 2002, attaining the position of Chief Director. He received numerous awards including the Sagamore of the Wabash, Distinguished Alumni of Purdue University, election to the American Society of Landscape Architects, and for his historical restoration of state properties. Craig was a creative passionate artist, detailed oriented, extremely focused with love of family, animals, and fine antiques. Although Craig is gone, he will continue to be loved by many for his generosity, unwavering determination, sense of humor and kind heart.

Craig met his partner and love of his life, Tom Canine in 1998, and they remained together for 26 years while renovating an old farmhouse in Franklin, Indiana before moving to Louisiana to construct a log house for their home in St. Amant.

Craig was predeceased by his mother, Virginia Gale Bair and father Charles (Cub) Joseph Bair, both from Danville, Indiana. He is survived by Tom Canine, partner, his brothers William R. Bair, Rantoul, Illinois, Jerry W. Bair, Houston, Texas and his niece, daughter of William, Tiffany L. Macke, Marshall Illinois.
