Donald Gene “Don” Hanna, a native and resident of St. Amant, passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 80. He was born on October 4, 1943. Don was a man deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carolyn Thibeau Hanna, and their sons, Kevin (Bridget) and Kyle (Mercedes) Hanna. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Bryce (Brittani) Hanna, Jordan (Tyler) Brignac, Brock Hanna, Heather (Kyle) Smith, Kane (Natalie) Hanna, Koby Hanna, and Kyli Hanna, as well as his great-grandchildren: Brayson, Blakely, and Brinsley Hanna; Thomas and Stella Brignac; Liam and Grace Hanna; Camilla and David Smith; and Bennett and Paisley Hanna. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Hanna.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Ewell and Mable Hanna, his grandchild Alyssa Hanna, his brother Jamie Hanna, his in-laws, Leo and Stella Thibeau, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Ruth Thibeau. Don treasured the moments spent at family gatherings, especially Sunday dinners, and the daily 4:00 p.m. coffee gatherings with loved ones. Don had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid supporter of St. Amant Gator Football.
Don enjoyed a long and accomplished career, retiring from BASF Chemical Corp. after 30 years of dedicated service. He then transitioned to a successful second career in real estate, most recently with Saurage Rotenberg Commercial Real Estate. Don was a member of several real estate organizations and previously served on the Ascension Economic Development Corporation Board. He was also deeply involved in his community, notably as a school board member at East Ascension Academy and as a former President of the St. Amant High School Booster Club.
Services will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant on Friday, October 4, 2024, beginning with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Fr. Jon Koehler. Entombment will follow in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Tyler Brignac, Brock Hanna, Bryce Hanna, Kane Hanna, Koby Hanna, and Kyle Smith.
