Elsie J Boudreaux

January 26, 1935 — July 6, 2024

Glendale, Arizona

Elsie J Boudreaux, 89, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on July 6, 2024 in Phoenix, AZ surrounded by family.

The first of two daughters, she was born in New Roads, Louisiana, to Gladys and Robert Joffrion on January 26, 1935. She grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and married her high school sweetheart, Nelson Joseph Boudreaux, who preceded her in death August 19, 2023. They were married 71 years.

Elsie was a humble, generous woman, devoting her life to her family as a homemaker and caregiver. She raised her children, helped take care of her grandchildren, was there for other family members when they needed a hand, and took care of her elderly aunt, uncle, and mother in their last months. Elsie was also very gifted in the art of needlework. Her sister, Jeanette, remembers, “When Elsie was nine or ten years old, she started learning how to do embroidery work. It was hard because the teacher told her the back of the work had to be as perfect as the front. That did not deter her and she continued to do many beautiful, embroidered pieces throughout her life. As a teenager Elsie learned how to sew. She really loved sewing. Elsie made everything she could. She learned how to change patterns to suit her style. Give her a piece of fabric, a pair of scissors, and needle and thread she could make something beautiful.” Elsie had a fun and adventurous spirit, always ready to pack her bags and go somewhere she had never been before, and always ready for a good laugh. She loved dolls, collecting and making them all her life. Her favorite childhood doll was Deanna Durbin and only Elsie was allowed to hold and touch her. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping. As soon as the family left the house for work and school, she would head to the stores to just see what was new, and hunt for bargains. She lived a full, selfless, loving life and will be sorely missed by her friends and family, but we are comforted knowing she is at peace with her heavenly Father. She leaves us with many warm memories to cherish.

Elsie is survived by her children, Robert Boudreaux, Karen Boudreaux, Mary Brooks, and Ronald Boudreaux, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, sister Jeanette Bourg, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude's Children’s Hospital.
