Ernie Lee Cart, 78 years old, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018. He was born in Basile, Louisiana on February 6, 1940 to Lester and Eva Cart, who raised him and his siblings; Winnie Potts (Cecil), Linda Strahan (Wayne), Esther Toups (Brent) and Gene in a loving, lively and proud Cajun family. Ernie enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1958. After spending his early life in Oakdale, Louisiana where he met and married the love of his life, Joyce Anne Boone. The couple then moved to Zachary in 1967 where they laid roots and started to expand their family. Ernie began his long-standing career as an Operator at Georgia Pacific in 1968 and retired in 2005. Ernie believed in a hard days’ work and enjoyed life every day. He was thankful for all that he has, he gave unselfishly, helped abundantly, and loved unconditionally. Ernie loved the outdoors, wood working, playing music, and spending time in the kitchen with his with his family over an abundance of food! He was proud of his Cajun heritage and was actively relearning his first language of Cajun French. Ernie’s love and dedication to his wife was evident to the end and has left behind a legacy to his sons of whom he was so very proud of. Lucky were those of us blessed to have known him, loved him, and been loved by him. He is survived by his wife of 59 beautiful years, Joyce Ann (Boone), his 5 sons and their spouses, Joey & Latrelle (Oudkirk), Greg & Debbie (Bates), David, Todd & Belinda (Limbaugh), Chris & Sarah (Thomas); grandchildren, Alan, Tiffany, Tyler, Brandon, Nick, Josh, Austin, Brody, JR, GiGi, and Jack (who will make his arrival in August); and nine great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Ernie is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Eva Cart. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ernie’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. A celebration of Ernie’s life will be held Saturday, April 21st from 12pm to 4pm, at the home of Ernie & Joyce Cart (3560 Robert Street). Friends and family are encouraged to attend.
