Floyd Milford Gordon aka “Opa”, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 17, 2018, at Ollie Steele Burden Nursing Facility in Baton Rouge, LA. Floyd was a native of Florida and a long-time resident of Baton Rouge. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ursula Kreer Gordon native of Germany; two daughters, Sylvia Wright and husband Michael of Baton Rouge; Brenda Eggie and husband Barry of Baton Rouge; three sons, Rodger Gordon and wife Stephanie of Bastrop, TX; Mark Gordon and wife Carrie of Houston, TX; Eric Gordon and wife Kim of Baton Rouge; thirteen granddaughters, Stephanie, Danielle, Shelby, Kelli, Rachel, Robyn, Emily, Sydney, Sarah, Hannah, Claire, Abby, and Caroline; one grandson, Michael; and five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Allie, Adam, Samuel, and Belle. He was preceded in death by his great-grandson Aaron; his sister, Betty McCarthy; and his parents Milford and Louise Gordon. Floyd was a dedicated and honorable veteran of the United States Air Force, an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and a loyal employee of PBC Industrial Supplies until the age of 70. Floyd’s biggest calling in life was being “Sweetheart”,” Daddy”, and “Opa”. His life revolved around his family, only taking a few moments at a time for himself quietly trying to hook the big one on a Saturday morning. Floyd loved garage sales, turning other peoples “trash” into the grandkids “treasures,” and being “Mr. Handy Man” usually to the benefit of others. His homemade ice cream was a hit at every family function and we are pretty certain he invented “medium rare blackened chicken.” Floyd loved people and more importantly people loved Floyd. His smile will now be a welcomed sight in heaven and on this earth will be remembered by all who knew him. Mass celebrating Floyd’s life will be held Thursday, March 22nd, at 11.00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. Visitation will be held prior to mass beginning at 9:30 am. Our family would like to thank all of the nurses, doctors, and staff at Ochsner Hospital, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Sage Rehabilitation Facility, Ollie Steele Burden Nursing Facility, and Hospice of Baton Rouge for all the love and care you provided to Floyd during his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please send donations in his memory to The Sister Dulce Foundation at 17560 George O’Neal Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70817, or to Hospice of Baton Rouge at 3600 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
