Gail Songy Chauvin was born August 20, 1936 in New Orleans, Louisiana. On the evening of December 2, 2024, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family, she peacefully fell asleep in death. She is survived by her seven children, Deborah (Vincent) Polomsky, Dawn (Al) Barrau, Darlene (Scott) Donaldson, Clairise (Jerry) Gruber, Sonny (Mardesia) Chauvin, Chuck Chauvin, and Christian (Beth) Chauvin, her brother Donald (Kay) Songy and brother-in-law Stanley (Diane) Chauvin, Sr. As well as 30+ grand, great and great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mildred Songy, her husband of 64 years, Buddy Chauvin, and her great grandson, Ashton Young. She married Clairville “Buddy” Chauvin, Jr. on June 6, 1951 and quickly started a family. Her devotion for her family went unmatched. And after learning about Jehovah, she was baptized in 1969. The two served Jehovah side by side, along with their children until his death in 2015. Dedicated to making sure her husband and kids were taken care of remained her priority, along with sharing Bible truths with others. And though her memories had started to diminish in recent years, her love of Jehovah remained intact. Countless numbers of people have been introduced to Jehovah’s love through her. She acquired a multitude of adopted “spiritual” children and grandchildren through the years. They say everyone has a love language, and cooking was hers. She was constantly cooking something for someone. As recently as the last week of her life, even though being physically unable to, she wanted to prepare and cook things for the people she cared for, especially her pecan pies. In addition to the many family dinners in her kitchen, anyone who came to visit always knew to be prepared to eat. No matter who you were, you were always met with warmth, humor, and the good food she was famous for. Her arms stayed open to embrace those whom she knew and loved. Once you crossed that doorway, you were family. Services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, December 21, 2024 with a gathering of friends beforehand beginning at noon at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1475 Fremaux Ave., Slidell, Louisiana 70458. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to all who visited and encouraged her, and the medical team who showed her kindness in her care. Her passing has left an immeasurable emptiness in the hearts of her family. We ask for your patience and support in the months ahead as we continue to grieve. Although we do not sorrow as the rest do who have no hope, we still have the pain of this loss now as we continue looking ahead to Jehovah God’s wonderful promise of a resurrection. – (1 Thess 4:13-18)
