George Ralph Miller, III

March 22, 1943 — January 3, 2025

Baton Rouge

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of George Ralph Miller III, who departed this earthly life on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 4:15 a.m., surrounded by his family at home. He shared 81 beautiful years with us.

George was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the late George Ralph Miller, Jr. and Ernestine Feltus Miller. Raised and baptized in the Berean Seventh Day Adventist Church community, George’s spiritual journey expanded over the years, finding a home in the Fellowship Church and later in the Unitarian Church. His deep faith and search for understanding were at the core of his being, shaping the way he interacted with the world—with compassion, openness, and wisdom.

A proud alumnus of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and Pine Forge Institute in Pennsylvania, George went on to attend Oakwood College and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln after graduating from Capitol High School in Baton Rouge. His service in the U.S. Military as a medic is a testament to his caring nature. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southern University and a master’s degree from Louisiana State University. His love for learning and intellectual curiosity enriched the lives of everyone around him.

George’s career spanned many roles, but he was most known for his work as a liaison—connecting communities, governments, and schools in meaningful ways. His most fulfilling position, however, was as a librarian at the Eden Park branch in Baton Rouge, where he shared his passion for books, music, and the boundless exploration of the human spirit.

George leaves behind a cherished legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sylvia Hall Miller; his four beloved children, Kesi Loryn Miller (Atlanta, GA), Kori Lois Miller (Baton Rouge, LA), Shaletha Patrice Hall (Charlotte, NC), and Maya Simone Miller (Baton Rouge, LA); and two grandsons, Xavier Hall and Adrian Torrence (Charlotte, NC), who brought him immeasurable joy.

He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Lola Miller, Lois Miller, and Vivian Freeman; his parents, George and Ernestine Miller; his cherished grandparents, Fannie and Henry Feltus, and Gertrude and George Miller, Sr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Their love shaped him, and now they will greet him with open arms.

George’s Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge – 8470 Goodwood Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. May we honor his life by living with the same kindness, curiosity, and love that he shared so freely with the world.
