Geraldine “Geri” Johnston Tanner passed away in peace at her home on Wednesday May 12, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was 72 years old.
Geri was born April 5, 1949 in Winnsboro, Louisiana, to the late G.W. Johnston and Eleanor Womack Johnston. She was the second of six children, preceded in death by her three brothers.
In her late childhood Geri and her family left their farm in Winnsboro and settled in St. Amant, where she attended East Ascension High School and met the love of her life, Gary Tanner. They were married May 4, 1968 and celebrated their 53 years of marriage through the birth of three children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Geri’s strength in life made her the foundation for her family, and her charm and quick wit made it impossible not to smile in her presence. Her passion for adventure led to a lifetime of travel, logging over 100,000 miles across the country with her husband and family and culminating in the visit of her 50th state in 2020.
Her beautiful life will forever by cherished by her husband, Gary Tanner, her three children, Christy, Hebert, Casey Tanner, and Celeste Spivey, her two sisters, Rhonda Richardson and Carolyn Braud, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Geri’s life will take place Monday, May 17, 2021 at The Church International, located at 13423 Hwy 431 in St. Amant. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial at 11:30 a.m.
