Glen began his life’s journey on Aug 22, 1943 and made his final flight into the waiting arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on Aug 5, 2018. Born and raised in DeRidder, La he went to a little country school, played trombone in the school band (even after he quit school), plowed their 30 acre farm with a horse drawn plow and worked at the local picture show. He moved to Baton Rouge and became a master carpenter through the Carpenter’s Local #1098 until his retirement. He was meticulous in not only his God given ability to build and restore but in his excellent work ethics always with character and integrity. In his life he chose to follow Jesus and be his faithful and obedient servant. He joined Redeeming Life Ministries under Rev. David Diamond in 1981 and used his skills to help build churches, participate in street ministry outreach and to always greet people with a smile to welcome them to join in worshiping and learning about God. He is survived by his wife, Faye Smith, three children Kerry Smith of Baton Rouge,La., Glenda Kaye Kelly (Keith) of Clinton, La. and Cherie Layfield (Wayne) of Bay City, Texas; his sister Billie Midkiff (Hardie) of Denham Springs; step daughter Pamela Deason-Bice (Tom), 7 grandchildren, Michelle, Ryan, Carmen, Neal, Cara, Lisa, Michael and 2 step grandchildren Alex and Londyn, 1 great granddaughter (Madilynn) and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by the many church family members whom he adored and who adored him, watching and influencing both young and old. Glen is preceded in death by his parents, David & Junie Smith, first wife Marian Smith, two brothers Warren Smith and Lois Smith and his sister Gladys Denison. I would like to express my extreme appreciation to the staff of Maison de Fleur Assisted Living, Audubon Hospice and MedPass Staffing in their above and beyond love and care in maintaining dignity and respect for Glen.
