Herndon Blake “Weedy” Wederstrandt Jr., born March 4, 1939, entered the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on April 2, 2025, at the age of 86.
Weedy was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of Maurepas, LA. He was more than a husband, father, grandfather and friend -- he was a guiding light in our lives. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories. Whether playing baseball, coaching little league or cheering from the stands, his passion was infectious. Weedy was a pillar of our community, known for his unwavering dedication, leadership, and passion for sports. As a coach, mentor, and friend, he shaped the lives of countless individuals, instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and integrity.
Beyond his contributions to sports, Weedy was a respected leader, always striving to uplift and unite those around him. His kindness, commitment, and service left a lasting impact, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Beyond the field, Weedy’s true legacy lies in the family he loved and adored. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather, treasuring each moment with those he held dear.
Weedy dedicated over 40 years of service to the Illinois Central Railroad before retiring. He also served his country with honor as a U.S. Navy Airman from 1958-1960.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Judy; his five sons, Herndon Blake III, Brian (Mandy), Brett (Melinda), Brad (Donna), and Travis (Jody); 16 grandchildren, Brandon, Erich, Karl, Herndon Blake IV “BamBam”, Bianca, Jordana Bourgeois (Bryce), Londyn (Cole), Brittany Delatte (Anthony), Brailyn, Bailee Villneurve (Camron), Haley, Brad Jr “Austin”, Jonah, Corbin, and Baylor; his five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Aubrey, Kennedy, ‘Lil’ Anthony, and Nylah, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herndon Blake Sr. and Corinne; his brother, Roger; sister, Judy and grand-child, Ivie Mary Efferson.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Weedy’s life and legacy on Monday, April 7,2025 at First Baptist Church Head of Island, 19114 Highway 22, Maurepas, LA 70449. Public visitation will be held from 10:30 AM-1:00 PM, followed by a service at 1:00 PM.
