Isaac Henry Smith III, known to most as "Speedy," passed away on February 25, 2024. He was born on October 1, 1949, in Shreveport, LA. Speedy was known for his career in breeding, training and running thoroughbred racehorses, a passion he pursued for many years, leading numerous horses to victory on the racetrack. Speedy's love for golf brought him joy outside of work, and he enjoyed spending time on the golf course whenever he could. He was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School, class of 1967 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Louisiana Tech University.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Darlene Aldridge Smith, daughter Katherine Smith Coghlan, brother Herbert Walter Soes, and grandson Waylon Ray Coghlan. Speedy was preceded in death by his mother Thais Ray Soes, father Isaac Henry Smith Jr., and sister Lucie (Trudy) Alexander.
A graveside service to honor Speedy's life will be held at Forest Park Cemetery, located at 3700 St Vincent Ave, Shreveport, LA 71103 on March 19th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Disabled American Veterans or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; two charities Speedy supported.
Speedy will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
