James Elvin “Jim” Norsworthy, 90. Went home to be with the Lord February 5th, 2002. Jim was born August 24th, 1931 in Lecompte, La. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War; a retiree from Continental Trailways Bus Line (with over one million safe driving miles); and, a member at Celebration Church in Baton Rouge.
He collected antique toy cars and buses, loved gospel music — especially the Gather Vocal Band, and enjoyed watching football on TV. He was also a great cook who loved making lots and lots of food for his family. His first job was shining shoes for soldiers at Fort Polk.
Jim was a devoted husband of 70 years and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife Betty Norsworthy, his sister Mary Vercher, his son Elvin Norsworthy (wife Trudy,) and daughter Sherry Tate; grandchildren, Angela Batarseh, Nathan Norsworthy, Amie Payment, Amanda Tate, Krist Norsworthy, and Julie Ritchie; great-grandchildren, Christian Batarseh, Madison Annison, Angel Batarseh, Seth Payment, Ethan Payment, Evelynn Norsworthy, Jude Hicks, Cohen Ritchie, Grace Norsworthy, Vincent Norsworthy, Piper Norsworthy, Lola Norsworthy, and Everett Ritchie. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Louella, and 11 siblings.
A memorial service will be held at Wholly Ground in Walker, La, on Sunday, February 13th, 2022, at 2:00 pm.
