Ms. Jean Brown D’Aquin died unexpectedly at home on September 13th, 2024, in Baton Rouge at the age of 81.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Erin Welsh, her brothers: George Brown, Grayson Brown, and Keith Brown, and her ex-husband, Harold Welsh. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marjorie and Barremore Brown, and ex-husband, Fred D’Aquin. Jean was born on June 28th, 1943 in Princeton, NJ to Majorie and Barremore Brown. She received a her degree in Art History at Georgia State University.
Erin remembers her as a loving, supportive, resourceful, and spirited mother who encouraged her to pursue her dreams and to find joy in the small things. Jean loved her two cat companions, Coco and Khloe and had a tremendous green thumb. An artist by nature, over the years she created her own jewelry and was able to see into souls with her photography. She worked for many years as a teacher with ARC of New Orleans instructing developmentally challenged students in life skills and helping them to create beauty.
After Katrina, she moved to Baton Rouge where she grew her circle of friends through working at Dillard’s, her Sunday school group at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, and her line dancing classes. Her instincts were often insightful, and her temperament was mild mannered and generally positive on life. An amazing gift giver, she was a generous and caring individual who loved her friends and family and did her best to be available to them when they needed support.
The memorial service is scheduled for 1pm, October 29th, 2024 at Broadmoor United Methodist Church in the Contemporary Worship Center. Donnie Wilkinson will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jean’s life.
