Jerry Shoaf, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, master tinker and jack of all trades, passed away on February 23, 2025 at the age of 84. Born in Rowan County, North Carolina, Jerry dedicated his life to his family, his craft, and his country.
He honorably served his country as a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Army, having been drafted and serving for two years with the 10th Infantry, Fifth United States Army. As a Mortar Man, he utilized his expertise in map reading, survival skills, combat ground tactics, and individual weapons. Jerry was a master electrician whose skills and dedication left a lasting impact on his profession. A proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union No. 606 since 1969. Beyond his career, he earned a 3rd-degree brown belt in Taekwondo, a testament to his discipline, strength, and perseverance.
Jerry was a longtime resident of Gonzales, Louisiana, where he built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret (Crain), and his children: Julia Cheryl Shoaf, Leah (Kyle) Frederic, Jerry (Nenita) Shoaf, and Tim (Lynette) Shoaf. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren who will forever hold his love and wisdom in their hearts.
Jerry is also survived by his brothers Johnny Sheron Shoaf & Glen Forrest Shoaf; and sisters Sarah Elizabeth Shoaf (Savoian/Gowing), Melva Lee Shoaf (Miller/Hammermeister) & Sybil Diane Shoaf (Hancock).
He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Chelsea Marie Frederic; his parents, William Crawford and Mabel Adam (Grubb) Shoaf; and his siblings: Joseph Marion Shoaf, Kenneth Henry Shoaf, William Frederick (Buddy) Shoaf, Evelyn Mae Shoaf (Wiggins), Mabel Frances Shoaf (Dann/Kelly), Willie Muriel (Jean) Shoaf (McCarta), Norma Joann Shoaf (Lenz) & Lois Lamond Shoaf (Smith).
Jerry’s presence, guidance, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of hard work, integrity, and devotion to family will live on in the lives he touched.
A private service to honor and celebrate Jerry’s life will be held at his home.
