John “Johnny” Clifton Mercier

John “Johnny” Clifton Mercier, a lifelong resident of Denham Springs, Louisiana, passed away in the family home on May 23, 2023 at the age of 65 due to a battle with cancer.

Johnny is survived by his sister, Donna Mercier; his beloved cat, Smokey Joe Mercier; niece, Alexis Bonvillain and husband Timothy Bonvillain Jr.; great nephew, Hudson Bonvillain; niece, Brandie Harris; great nephew and niece, Christopher Harris and Courtney Harris; nephew, Floyd Ferguson Jr. and wife Melissa Ferguson; great nephews, Austin Ferguson and Cody Ferguson.

He is preceded in death by his parents George “Cliff” Clifton Mercier and Genevieve “Beth” Elizabeth Mercier.

A special thank you to Aunt Helen Mercier-Dier and Uncle Paul Dier for all of the phone calls, cards, and the beautiful hibiscus plant. Also a special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cook, lifelong family neighbors, for being present during Johnny’s final days.

Johnny was passionate about trucks, legos, collecting cans, and directing traffic for Manny’s big events. He was a kind hearted individual who loved to talk with every one he came into contact with. He made friends where ever he went, including in Maurepas where he loved to spend Tuesdays at Manny’s hanging out with his buddies and enjoying their home cooked meals. Johnny will always be remembered for his love of trucks, picking with others, and his contagious laughter. The world certainly grew a little dimmer with his passing.

The family would like to personally thank Bridgeway Hospice of Baton Rouge, Allison Kennedy, and Jamie Williams for their attentive care in his final days. Jamie and her daughter, Allison, were close family friends who share many lifelong memories of Johnny and the family.

Also, the family would like to thank all of his cousins and loving friends who called him, visited him, mailed him cards, and prayed for him.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date as the family is still processing his passing.
