In loving memory of John Mark Melancon, known affectionately as "Mark" to his family and closest friends, a devoted husband, son, brother, and friend. His jovial spirit, love for family, and love for life will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who were touched by his presence. He was born on January 10, 1962, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and it is with a heavy heart that we announce his passing on May 18, 2024.
Mark was a 1980 graduate of Belaire High School and went on to work in the civil engineering field in Irving, Texas. He eventually retired from his job as landfill manager for the city of Irving before moving back to Louisiana, where he worked in inventory management at Dow Chemical.
Mark leaves behind a legacy that will continue to live on through those who were fortunate enough to have known him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie Harwell Melancon, parents, Lawrence “Sonny” Melancon and Gaynell Deville Melancon, his brothers, Charles Craig Melancon and Paul Keith Melancon, and sister, Gaynell Melancon Denova.
While we grieve the loss of such a remarkable individual, we take comfort in knowing that Mark's legacy will live on through the memories we shared with him. His presence will be deeply missed, but we rejoice in knowing that one day we will be with him again in our Heavenly home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of False River Catholic Church in New Roads, Louisiana on Friday, May 31st, at 1:00PM CST.
