A ceremony celebrating the life of Johnny J. Nickens will be 11 am Monday at New River United Methodist Church, visitation will be Sunday 4 pm until 7 pm and will resume on Monday at 9 am until time of the service. Interment will follow at New River Baptist Church Cemetery. Johnny was born on August 13, 1934, in New Orleans, LA and passed from this life on Saturday September 4, 2021, at his residence in St Amant. He was a member for over fifty years at New River United Methodist Church, served twelve years with the Louisiana National Guard, retired after thirty-five years with the Pontchartrain Levee Board, and coach girl softball and men baseball teams for many years. He enjoyed playing baseball, an avid fan of LSU and the Saints, watching western shows and especially time spent with family get together and cookouts. His greatest passion was his Faith, attending church, and all the little children. He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Lilian Louisanie Nickens, his first wife Jeannette LeBlanc Nickens, children Acklin Nickens, Debra Nickens Blouin, Sandra Nickens Sheppard, and Chantel Nickens Yates, sons-in-law Charles Blouin Sr., Edward Sheppard, Tim Stevens, and Fred Coppenbarger; grandchildren Jerry Lambert Jr., Aden Portillo, and Cindi Sheppard, great grandson Raiden Ernest; siblings Al Nickens, and Amelia Nickens Bourgeois. Survivors his second wife Shirley Richardson Bourgeois Nickens; children Rhonda Nickens Coppenbarger, Johnny Nickens, Donna Nickens Lambert (Jerry), Kathy Nickens Lear, and Jacklyn Nickens; stepchildren Rene J. Bourgeois (Kim), Sherry B. Templet (Terry), Blaine K. Bourgeois (Becky), Daphine B. Lambert (Chris), Bryant J. Bourgeois, and Rachel B. Reynolds (Shannon); siblings Geroge Nickens, and Margaret Nickens; grandchildren Garryl, Jeanne, James, Serinty, Windi, Jesse, Dawn, Tessa, Casey, Lacee, Kayla, Johnathn, Nicole, Emily, Morgan, Makailah, Kaleigh, and Chasity; also survived by a host of great grandchildren (step), great grandchildren (step), church family and many friends.
