Kearney Vincent Elisar “Kool”, age 88, native of Dutchtown, LA, and resident of Gonzales, LA, passed away on December 31, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. He was a US Marine Veteran, and retired from the Louisiana State DOTD after 36 years. Kearney coached with the Gonales Dixie Youth baseball league for 8 years, Kearney loved old classic country music and playing around with his guitar. He loved telling stories of his childhood, work, and day to day experiences. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ferne Mayers Elisar, four sons and daughter-in-law, Shawn Elisar (Larka); Keith Elisar; Eric Elisar; and Kyle Elisar, two daughters and son in law, Shannon Bowen (Donald) and Tricia Sears; One sister, Edna Mae Johnston; and one brother, Melvin John Elisar; twelve grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Sims Pierre, Sr. and Hettie Landry Elisar; four sisters, Gertie Marie Poche; Mary Ann Elisar; Nita Faye Elisar; and Ruth Catherine Chaney; five brothers, Laurent Ray; Edmond Paul; Sims Pierre, Jr.; Allen James; Paul Dean, Sr.; Clarence Joseph "Soupy"; and Donald Francis, one daughter in law, Christina Ramos Elisar (Kyle); and one grandson Devan William Boren, (Tricia). Kearney requested to be cremated, and his remains placed in the vault with his wife after her passing. An open house style celebration of life will be held on January 11, 2025, from Noon to 6pm at the Elisar home on Hwy 621. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and his entire care team, with special thanks got to his nurse, Craig and CNA Shameika.
