Kirk Dovie Sr.

December 11, 1956 — September 17, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kirk Dovie Sr., who left us on September 17, 2024, at the age of 67 after a battle with dementia. Kirk was born on December 11, 1956, in New Orleans, to Reba Lea Kirk Dovie and Paul S. Dovie Sr., and grew up to be a beloved member of his community, cherished by friends and family alike.

Kirk was known for his unwavering kindness, generosity, and his sense of humor. He was a devoted husband to Shannon Shipston-Dovie and a father to his surviving son, Kirk Dovie Jr., daughter-in-law Amber Stokes, and to his beloved granddaughter, Adeline Dovie.

Kirk Sr. was a graduate of Charity Radiology and started working at Pendleton Memorial Hospital in the Radiology Department after completing his studies. Outside of his career, Kirk had many passions. He loved riding his motorcycle, playing taps at military funerals, and expressing his musical talent through the trumpet. His commitment to honoring those who had passed, especially through his trumpet performances, was a touching reflection of his character.

He is preceded in death by his wife Shannon Shipston-Dovie and parents, Reba Lea Kirk Dovie and Paul S. Dovie Sr., and is survived by his siblings, Linda Dovie Smith and Paul S. Dovie Jr., as well as his brother-in-law Harold Smith, his sister-in-law Mary Dovie, and many other cherished family members.

Kirk's legacy will live on through his family and the countless lives he touched. He leaves behind a family that adored him and he will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Taps Across America, a cause close to Kirk’s heart.
