A Mass of Christian Burial Celebrating the life of Leon Joseph “Jay Bird” Braud will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday at St Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Hope Haven Garden of Memory Cemetery Gonzales.
Mr. Braud was born on May 13, 1932, in Gonzales, and departed from this life on Friday January 14, 2022, surrounded by his family, at the age of 89 years.
He was a resident of Gonzales, a retired truck driver with the City of Gonzales, and a member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church. He enjoyed watching all the old western television shows, going to the flea market, spending time on his porch, with a cigarette, and visiting. He admired automobiles and owned many over the course of his lifetime. Also enjoyed his favorite meal, cornbread, and milk, his second food enjoyment was liver with onions. In his later years, the neighborhood cats would come visit with him on his porch. His greatest passion was time spent with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Estress and Juliet Bercegeay Braud, siblings Leo P. Braud and Leola M. Lambert.
Survivors include his siblings Leona Perque, John Hubert Braud, Mary Robbins (Roy), Agnes Heintze (Edward), and Shirley Delatte (Ronald Sr.), he was uncle/daddy to Michael Braud, Damon Foster, and Tammy White; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
