Mark Joseph Roussel

February 19, 1959 — July 14, 2024

Hammond, Louisiana

Mark Joseph Roussel, 65, of Hammond, LA (formerly, Terrytown, LA), went to his eternal rest on July 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 19, 1959 to Mary (Flynn) and Gayle Roussel, of Westwego, LA.

Mark was a silent, strong man whose true passion was his family, they were his ultimate accomplishment. Left to cherish his memories is his wife of almost 25 years, Helen Rose Cormier Roussel, children Marion Kaycee and Marcus Douglas Roussel, and granddaughter Athena Kassidy. Loved by his sister-in-law Gretchen Adam (Paul), brother-in-law Douglas Cormier Jr. (Bonnie), cousin Debbie Laurent Pavur, her children Edward, III and Nicholas Pavur (Mark’s godson), his lifelong friend Trent Marcomb, his adored animals Jewel and Daisy, grand pups Bailey and Dexter, and grand cats Shadow and Sunny, and many other loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was also survived by his sister, Shawn Kohler.

He graduated from Jesuit High School in New Orleans (77), and The University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette (81). He was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and thoroughly enjoyed his college years. Mark was also a member of the Tulane Baseball Grounds Krewe where his family spent many wonderful years enjoying Tulane Baseball and making lifelong memories and friendships.

Mark’s passions were his family, sports, and Rock & Roll music. His heart belonged to the New Orleans Saints, Houston Astros, Tulane and Jesuit Baseball. He shared his love of sports with his children coaching their softball and baseball teams for many years. One of the many highlights was watching his son pitch the championship game at a tournament in Florida. He was so very proud of his son. He also coached 8th grade baseball at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, lovingly called “Coach” by many young men who went on to play high school and college baseball. His love for Rock & Roll music especially Led Zepplin and AC/DC, has been comfort for his family especially his daughter Marion who shares his passion! What a joy it was to watch them play air guitar and air drums! His children and granddaughter Athena, brought so much joy to his life. We will miss him dearly, but have so many wonderful memories to cherish, always and forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Gayle Roussel, maternal grandparents Mary (Conway) and August Flynn, paternal grandparents Inez (Richard) and Fred Roussel, all of New Orleans, LA.

The family would love to thank Compassus Hospice of Baton Rouge and their entire staff for all the love and compassion for Mark and his family. Dr. Jake Rodi of Ochsner Heath for diagnosing Mark’s illness and caring for him the last 7 years. Gretchen Adam, Heidi Evenson, Jody Tozel, Debbie Pavur, and Trent Marcomb for the support and love during Mark’s last weeks of life, our family is forever grateful.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, at his home in Hammond, LA.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests in memory of Mark Roussel that donations be made to the Amare Caring Hands Foundation which provides education and food to children in need. https://www.amare.com/corporate/en-US/our-impact
