Martha Marie Connolly Whitmer “Marti” was born on March 16, 1937, in Dickenson, North Dakota. She passed away on March 13, 2024 in Baton Rouge, LA at the age of 86. Marti was a member of the St. Margaret's Episcopal church. She immersed herself in the arts by way of dancing, acting, and singing. She served on several committees to aid in political campaigns, sponsored and led groups such as the Key Club and Potpourri Club, and was one of the most accomplished teachers as she earned a Who's Who nomination in 1994. She enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids, creating meals in the kitchen, working crossword puzzles, and being an avid reader. She was passionate about teaching and community-based politics. She is survived by her husband, Ronald D. Whitmer; children, Robert Henry Whitmer, Rebecca Helen Soulier, Margaret Ann Wardell; grandchildren, Ryan Whitmer, Katherine Whitmer, Haley Carrigan, Heather Soulier, Dylan Soulier, Zachary Wardell, and Hannah Wardell; canine companion, Maximus the Confessor (Max). Marti is preceded in death by her parents, Martin J. Connolly and Helen Hayes Connolly; siblings, Robert Connolly, Elizabeth Gardner, James Connolly, John Connolly, and Patricia Connolly.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at Saint Margaret’s Episcopal Church (12663 Perkins Rd., Baton Rouge, LA) with visitation begining at 11 am until service time from12pm-1pm on Monday, March 18, 2024.In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Baton Rouge Food Bank.
