Marvelyn "Lucy" Dauzat, born on January 2, 1941, in Westwego, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home in Albany, Louisiana, on February 3, 2025. She was 84 years old. Lucy's departure comes after a long and courageous battle against dementia, a testament to her strength and resilience.
Throughout her life, Lucy dedicated many years to her work as a beloved school bus driver, a role that brought her immense joy as she transported children and engaged with families in her community. Her commitment to her career was matched only by her dedication to her faith, as she cherished her time attending the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Lucy's love for her family was evident to all who knew her. She is survived by her sons, Michael Dauzat Sr. (Jamie) and Barry Bertus; her daughter, Christina Russ; her sister, Darlene Whitney; and her brothers, Richard Tassin and Charles Tassin. She also leaves behind a cherished lineage of grandchildren, including Bridgette Finley, Michael Dauzat Jr., Mason Dauzat, Christopher Finley, Elliot Russ, Luke Russ, and Barry Bertus Jr.
Lucy was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie Smith; her father, Antoine Tassin; and sisters, Laverne Tassin Crespo and Florine Tassin.
A memorial service to honor Lucy's life will be held on February 15, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 48440 US-51, Tickfaw, Louisiana. Services will be conducted by Minister Michael Lucido. The service will conclude at 4:00 PM. If you can, the family asks all attendants to wear an article of purple colored clothing, as it was Lucy's favorite color.
Lucy's legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends who will remember her for her nurturing spirit, dedication to her community, and her unwavering love for those she held dear.
