Mary Alice Jackson Guillory

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”

                                                                                                                 Ecclesiastes 3:1

Mary Alice Jackson Guillory, of St. Francisville, went home to be with God on October 12, 2021, at the age of 80. Born December 17, 1940 in Baton Rouge, she was the youngest child of Juliet Aguillard Jackson and Claude N. Jackson, II. Her pursuit of learning was evident throughout her life. Mary received an M Ed. Degree in Elementary Education and an M Ed. Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Southern University. She did her graduate studies in education and certification in reading at Louisiana State University. Mary also did graduate work at the University of Minnesota in educational psychology. Mary worked as an educator in Baton Rouge. When she retired she was active in the senior citizen activities at the Dr. Leo S. Butler Community Center coordinated by her closest friend, Alice Toombs. A devout Catholic, Mary worshipped at St. George Catholic Church for many years and believed in studying as well as living the Word. Mary was married to Anthony Guillory. Through this union was born one daughter, Maria. Maria married university professor Karl Hedman and moved to Sweden, his home country, where they had two daughters. Mary lived with her daughter’s family in Sweden for three years when Maria was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Maria passed away in 2020, and Mary moved back to Louisiana, settling in St. Francisville. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Juliet and Claude, daughter Maria, brother Claude III, and sister Ruby. She leaves to cherish her memory her son-in-law Karl and granddaughters Bianca and Heidi. In all the world there was no one like Mary. She is in God’s heart. No one can replace her. A graveside service will take place Tuesday, November 2, at 1:00pm at the St. George Catholic Church Cemetery. Officiant is Father Paul Yi.
