Melvin R. Cox Sr., 73, of Prairieville, LA was called to Heaven on Thursday, December 19, 2024, after an unexpected, yet hard fought battle. He was a great man, husband, dad, and pawpaw. A lifelong mechanic and still working full-time, He rarely experienced a day where he didn’t share his knowledge with others. His life was filled with love and countless cherished memories with his family either fishing on the beach or telling stories from his swing under the porch.
He leaves behind a devoted family and friends who will forever treasure his memory. He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy, who for over 40 years has stood by his side through all of life’s seasons; His children, Andrea “Andy” Kling (Bryan), Melody Herring (Brandon), Melvin Cox Jr (Callie), Tracey Lasserre (Brady), Melissa Cox, Tesha Cuthrell, and Tammy Lynn Cox; His grandchildren, Sydnie, Gabrielle, Brennan, Rhett, Layne, and Everlee; His siblings, Lillian Orgeron and Roger Cox. He is preceded in death and will be reunited with his parents, George F. and Ethel Cox, his sisters Patricia Williams and Robin G. Cox, his brother, George Cox Sr., his mother and father in-law, Peaches and A.P. Brown, his brother and sister in-law, Jackie Gremillion and Sheree Lanoux, and his grandson, Jace Cox.
The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff at OLOL-BR and especially the 3rd-floor Heart and Vascular ICU nursing staff for their compassion and understanding during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held at the Port Vincent Community Center on January 3, 2025, from 4-8pm for his family and friends to recount the endless stories of a life lived to the fullest.
