Michael Dwayne Smith was born on June 13th, 1952 in Brookhaven Mississippi and was a resident of Gonzales Louisiana. Mike received his Bachelors degree in Athletic Administration and Coaching from Southern Mississippi in 1975, after graduating from Brookhaven High School in 1972. Mike played football on a full scholarship.
He was a football coach in Brandon, Mississippi. He became a car salesman where he worked alongside his brother Lamar. He worked at Triad Chemical. Mike retired from working for the City of Gonzales. Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Family was the center of his life. He was quite the jokester, and had an indescribable sense or humor. Mike was quite the handy man and could turn anyone’s trash into treasure. When visiting his home, Mike was always welcoming with open arms. You couldn’t leave without him giving you a hug.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Susan; his daughters Sydney (Jason), Hayley (Blake); Grandchildren Maci and Jake; brothers Garry Smith
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Hollis Smith, his mother Marie Smith; brothers Lamar Smith and Ted Smith
Visitation from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by a memorial service, which will take place at The Fellowship Church located at 14363 Hwy 73 Prairieville La 70769 on Monday December 18. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Fellowship Church at www.fcascension.com/give
