Millard Michael “Mike” Keene, also affectionately known as Junior, passed away on September 24, 2024 at the age of 82. He was a native of Alexandria, LA and a former resident of Houston, TX and Shreveport, LA, before settling in Baton Rouge, LA. Mike dedicated his entire working career to architecture, a profession he loved. He was a lifetime member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Mike's deep appreciation for the natural world was evident in his love for nature and birds, as well as his enduring fondness for all animals, particularly dogs. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Audubon Society (BRAS). Mike was an avid sports fan, proudly supporting both LSU and the New Orleans Saints, and enjoyed playing golf when the opportunity arose. His zest for life was complemented by a passion for reading, solving puzzles, and engaging in artistic pursuits, such as painting and drawing.
Relationships were at the heart of Mike’s life; he was a true people person. He delighted in helping others and built connections with those around him. Food and cooking were another of his greatest joys, especially Italian cuisine, which he savored fully. Mike had a spirit of adventure that extended to his travels, as he relished the chance to explore new places and try diverse foods along the way.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Tammy Keene; children, Lida Marie Enche (husband Vince) and Ashley (Khon Lu); stepchildren, Patricia A. Wells (husband Jason) and Bradley S. Weeks (wife Mindy); grandchildren, Luke Wells, Olivia Enche, and Maddie Lu; prior wife and mother of his children, Lida B. Keene; and beloved dogs, Bailey and Peetie.
