Nancy Marie Sonnier Reed

Nancy Marie Sonnier Reed, affectionately known as “PooNancy”, passed away on June 20, 2024, at the age of 78 after an eight-year struggle with Alzheimer’s with her husband at her side. 

She was born on June 9, 1946, in Eunice, LA. Nancy attended Basile and Eunice elementary schools; graduated from Eunice High School in 1964 and had two years’ business training at T.H. Harris Votech School. 

Nancy was a state employee for 37 years. She worked for the Dept. of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism (DCRT). She was Administrator IV responsible for the budget, payroll, purchasing and capital expenditures for the State Park System. She had a special love for her cats Garcon and Pistosh and her dogs Ginger, Taiwu and Aphrodite. She loved gardening and really had a green thumb. Nancy was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Survived by her husband of 53 years, Michael Wayne Reed; son, Jacob Brandon Reed; sister-in-law, Sue Sonnier.

Preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred and Mary Piersall Sonnier; sister, Vivan Anne Sonnier Parks (Edward); brothers, Sam Sonnier (infant) and Kenneth Paul Sonnier.

Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial visitation on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, from 10AM until 11AM. The memorial service will begin at 11AM. Interment to follow at Louisiana National Cemetery, Zachary, LA, at 1PM.
