Nona Sheets Nickens Causey, 71, a native of Gonzales, Louisiana and a resident of Galvez, Louisiana, passed away surrounded by her husband and children on Wednesday, December 30, 2020. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a 1967 graduate of East Ascension High School. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church where she served as catechism teacher, RCIA sponsor, children’s church coordinator, and Eucharistic minister to the homebound. She was also a homemaker, room mother, and substitute teacher; however, her most cherished position was caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Barry Causey; her three children: Michelle N. Lavigne (Joel), Tami N. Wilkes (Jeff), and Michael J. Nickens (Casey); seven grandchildren: Caleb Lavigne (Jessa), Brianna W. Sheffield (Zach), Alexandra L. Cardinale (Ryan), Natalie, Camden, Saydee, and Anderson Nickens; four great grandchildren: Blayse and Blayre Lavigne, Ava Sheffield, and Briggs Cardinale; siblings: Sonja Edmonston, Gary Sheets (Brenda), Keith Sheets, and Trent Sheets (Joan) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Nolan Sheets, her first husband, V.J. Nickens, Jr., and her brothers Al and Ferrel Sheets.
On Saturday, January 2, 2021, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by Father Rubin Reynolds. Pallbearers will be Caleb Lavigne, Ryan Cardinale, Zach Sheffield, Camden and Anderson Nickens. The family would like to thank the staff at Ochsner Hospital ICU on O’Neal Lane for their loving care.
