Richard (Rick) A. Hanley Sr.
Richard (Rick) A. Hanley, of Prairieville, LA, passed away on Friday, December 27th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 17-year battle with cancer. Born on May 20th, 1950, in Jennings, LA, Rick leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was beautifully centered around his family.
Rick’s sense of humor and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. His steadfast faith guided him through life’s challenges, including his long battle with cancer, which he faced with grace and resilience. In his final days, he reminded his family to celebrate his peace rather than mourn his passing.
Rick built a lifetime of cherished family traditions—from unforgettable holidays to summer beach vacations—creating countless memories filled with love, laughter, and joy. He took immense pride in his family and found great joy in their successes.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Julie Brock Hanley; his three children, Kimberly Hanley Hallett (Scott), Katie Hanley Dunlap (Pat), and Richard A. Hanley Jr. (Kate); and his eight adored grandchildren: Regan, Paris, Kaden, Genevieve, Scarlett, Gavin, Coen, and Mason.
He is also survived by his siblings: Sheila Hanley Miller (Glenn), Becky Hanley Hamilton (Brian), Sharon Hanley Fuselier (Danny), Jean Hanley Fontenot, Mark Hanley (Kelly), and Michael Hanley (Maria); brothers-in-law, Micheal Brock (Ruth) and Tommy Brock (Tricia), as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Judy Hanley; his father-in-law, John Brock; his mother-in-law, Julia Carpi Brock; his sister, Melinda Hanley Guarino; his brothers-in-law, Jay Guarino and Nathan Fontenot; and his sister-in-law, Caryl Brock Wilkinson, as well as his nephew Joshua Wilkinson.
Rick’s love, humor, and unwavering spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Mass to honor Rick’s life will be held on Friday, January 3rd, 2025, at 11:45 a.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (15615 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70817), followed by a celebration of life at the Hanleys’ residence.
