Richard Paul Sholty, 67, passed away peacefully at his home on February 3, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Rick was born on March 18, 1957 in Peoria, Illinois, but was a resident of Denham Springs, Louisiana for the last 51 years. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jan Craig Sholty, and their five children: Carmen Hathcox (Colt Fairburn), Carol Rhodus (KC Rhodus), Nicholas “Nick” Sholty (Danielle Sholty), Leslie “Ryan” Sholty (Mindy Sholty), and Zachary “Zack” Sholty (Courtney Ferguson). He is also survived by his half-sisters Debbie Sholty Sadowski and Roberta Sholty Hall, as well as his great aunt, Paulette Lovell and her son Jay.
Joseph “JC” & Layne Hathcox; James “Wyatt” Rhodus; Hailee & Landin Sholty; Eden, Hayes & Maverick Sholty; and Avery, Rylee & Elias Sholty are his eleven grandchildren that were the joy of his life. He was present at every school function; sports event and anything else that involved them. He truly was the most special “Pawpaw.”
Rick was proceeded in death by his mother, Carole Ann Sholty; his father, Richard Joel Sholty; his grandparents, Revere Paul and Leola Faith Lowe; his half-brother, Lenny Sholty and his great uncle, Larry Lovell.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He was always down for taking anyone’s money in a card game or playing a round of golf. He was a huge LSU fan and loved cheering on the Tigers. Doing any of these things with his kids or grandkids made them even better to him.
Pallbearers are Nick, Ryan & Zack Sholty, JC & Layne Hathcox and Wyatt Rhodus. Honorary pallbearers are Landin, Hayes, Maverick & Elias Sholty, Colt Fairburn, KC Rhodus, Pat Moore, Lenny Sholty and Larry Lovell.
Special thanks to Heart of Hospice.
