Richard Lane Tucker

August 24, 1938 — November 12, 2024

Our earthly father Richard Lane Tucker, born August 24, 1938, went to be with his heavenly father on November 12, 2024, at 5:00 am surrounded by his wife of 67 years and his children. Richard graduated in 1956 from Pride High School and married his high school sweetheart Beverly Jean Smith (Bobbye) on November 8, 1957.

He attended Southeastern Louisiana University on a track scholarship and eventually went on to work for General Tire for 30 years and then Southern Tire Mart until his retirement. He was an avid sportsman and fisherman and competed in the Senior Olympics in 3 on 3 basketball and won a gold medal in the Louisiana Senior Olympics and went on to compete in Nationals. Above his love for sports and the outdoors, was his love for Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. He was Chairman of the Deacons for Foster Road Baptist Church for many years and loved working with the youth. No amount of words can describe what an amazing man of God and mentor he was to so many.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Smith Tucker, his son Timothy L. Tucker and wife Renee, daughter Lauri Tucker Decell and husband Keith, grandsons Brandon Tucker (Maegan Martin), Dustin Tucker (Jeanie), Hunter Decell (Amanda) and favorite granddaughter Chelsea Nichols (Scott), and 8 great grandchildren Dawson and Sadie Tucker, Aubree, Emma and Jace Decell, Charlotte and Tucker Nichols, and Brynlee Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, T.G. and Louise Tucker, brothers Wendell and Barry Tucker, parents-in-law L.D. and Olga Smith, daughter Baby Tucker, and many other family and friends. Our family would like to thank Hospice of Baton Rouge, especially Randle Lowrance and Julie Suggs, for their excellent care.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Foster Road Baptist Church from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with services to be held at 11:00 am. There will be a family burial at Tucker Cemetery in Zachary, following the services.
