Robert Gary Teel, D.D.S., 76, died Thursday May 5, 2022, at The Carpenter House, with his wife and close friends at his side. Gary was born Jan. 9, 1946, in Jackson, MS, graduated from Lafayette (LA) High School, attended LSU, and graduated from the University of Tennessee Dental School in Memphis. He practiced dentistry in Charlottesville, VA, Denham Springs, and Port Vincent. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity at LSU and XI PSI PHI international dental fraternity at the University of Tennessee. A true outdoorsman, Gary loved fishing, gardening, tending his roses, sports, and astronomy. He enjoyed all types of music, especially his clarinet. Using his love of learning, he avidly solved crossword puzzles, and was the “all-around handyman” keeping their home running smoothly. In his retirement years, Gary was an active member of the Baton Rouge Bridge Club. He is survived by his wife, Pat McCay Teel; daughter, Leslie Teel Gray (John); and the joy of his life, granddaughters, Violet Gray and Ruby Gray, all of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Nell Reed Teel; father, Claude Teel; and sister, Rebecca Teel Roberts. A memorial service will be Saturday, May 21 at First United Methodist Church, 930 N. Blvd., conducted by Rev. Greg Toney, with visitation at 11 a.m. and the service at noon.
