Robert Mack Gill, Sr. passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the age of 73. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Garylyn Joffrion Gill; children Stacy Gill, of Weyanoke; Justin and wife Jourdan Gill of Walker; and Cheyenne Gill, of Baton Rouge. He also leaves behind two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Gill, of Baton Rouge; and Nolan and Kathi Gill, of Denham Springs; numerous nieces, nephews and dear cousins. He was Poppa to six grandchildren who will miss him dearly: Riley Gill McGlynn, of Lake Tahoe, CA; Olivia Gill McGlynn, of Honolulu, HI; Gabriel Robby Land and Mia Jean Yeary, of Baton Rouge; and Camryn Claire Gill and Brady Mack Gill, of Walker. Robert is preceded in death by his parents Nolan and Myrtle Ann Gill, and son Robert "Robby" Mack Gill, Jr. Born in Baton Rouge, Robert attended Glen Oaks High School where he was a star athlete in both football and track. After graduating in 1969, he received a scholarship to play football at USL (now ULL). There, he excelled on the football field as a Ragin' Cajun in his junior and senior years. Robert retired from Performance Contractors in 2016 after many years in the industrial construction field. He was a parishioner of St. Jean Vianney and an Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus. Besides the great love he had for his family and friends, Robert had an enormous passion for golf. Every weekend he could be found at various golf courses challenging his brothers, sons, nephews and golf buddies. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church, 16166 S. Harrells Ferry Road, Baton Rouge. Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Eric Gyan starting at 1 p.m. followed by burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge. The Gill family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Paul Dammers and his nurse Mandy at the Neuromedical Center; the loving and caring staff at Audubon Hospice: Brittany, Ingrid, Sonia and Becca, along with his personal sitter, Monica. We are forever grateful to the care and love "Poppa G" received while living at the Pearl at Jamestown, as well.
