Roy Carnegie Jr., aged 75, passed away on June 30, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born on July 7, 1948, in McComb, Mississippi, Roy lived a life marked by dedication to his family, a storied career, and active community involvement. Roy served in the US Army from 1969 to 1972, a period during which he fulfilled his duties with distinction. Post his military service, he embarked on a successful career at Ethyl Chemical Plant before becoming self-employed, a venture he continued for 30 years until his retirement in 2021. Known for his vast knowledge, Roy often shared sayings, life lessons, and his unique sense of humor. His blunt honesty was tempered by his deep love and dedication to his wife Sheryl, of 47 years and their family, including three children and their spouses, and six grandchildren, all of whom he adored and spoiled generously. Roy also maintained lifelong friendships, staying close to many friends until his final days. An avid duck hunter, Roy was also a dedicated member of the Louisiana State Fair Board and an active participant in the 4-H community, demonstrating his commitment to both his hobbies and his community. 

Roy is survived by his children, Kimberly Carnegie Burgess (Ivan), Chrissie Sloan (Sean), and Trey Carnegie (Lindsay); grandchildren, Carson, Trustin, Tyler, Greisyn, Camille, and James; and nieces, Amy Carnegie Dunn (John) and Betsy Carnegie Bryson. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Sheryl Ann Carnegie, his parents, Roy Carnegie Sr. and Mary Aletha Fenn; his brothers, Barnett and Robert Earl Carnegie; his sister, Norma Nell Carnegie; and half-brothers, Bert Everette and William Glynn Wroten. 

Church Funeral Services is assisting the family during this time. Roy’s life, marked by his service, love for his family, and community involvement, leaves a lasting legacy that will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Goodwood Church of Christ 10715 Goodwood Blvd. Baton Rouge, La. 70815 at 9 AM until funeral services begin at 10 AM. Burial will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory immediately following.
