Sara "Sallye" Elliot Stevens Abadie

Sara “Sallye” Elliott Stevens Abadie passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at her home in Baton Rouge. She was born on June 5, 1944, in Denver, Colorado to Charles and Dorothy Graham Stevens, and as a young girl moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. She graduated from Byrd High School in 1962 before moving to Baton Rouge to attend LSU. 

At LSU, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1966. While at LSU, she met her husband, James “Jimmy” Abadie, and married soon after graduation. She began her teaching career at Central Middle School but after one year became a stay-at-home mom to Creighton, Sara and Patrick. 

During this time, she was active in the Junior League. She returned to teaching at Broadmoor Presbyterian Preschool then to St. Luke’s Episcopal School where she taught for 26 years and retired at the age of 75. She touched many lives through her gift and devotion to teaching. She loved children, cats, dogs, birds, the beach, grilled cheese and never left home without a Kleenex in her purse. She always had a smile on her face which continued to the end. 

She is survived by her children, Creighton (Amy), Sara, and Patrick (Julie), her grandchildren, Madeline, Olivia (Matthew) Crapanzano, and Thomas Abadie and Camille and Isabelle Abadie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, James Francis Abadie, sister Zoe (Cooper) Harrell, parents, Charles and Dorothy Stevens. 

Visitation will be at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 18 from 9:00-10:00am with service beginning at 10:00. Interment following at Greenoaks Memorial cemetery.
