Sherri Bronson, a retired registered nurse and resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully and stepped into her heavenly reward on January 19, 2024, at the age of 73.
Sherri is survived by her mother, Marie Breeland; daughter Hollie (Andre) Ortis of Denham Springs, LA; grandchildren Amber, Aiden, and Avery; nephews Benjamin Breeland of Bogalusa, La and Brandon (Ginger) Breeland of Tylertown, MS and along with several close family members and friends. She is proceeded in death by her father, Jesse (JC) Breeland and her brother, Greg “Bear” Breeland.
Sherri was born in Bogalusa, LA on February 27, 1950, to Jesse and Marie (née Rester) Breeland. She began her medical career in 1973 as a licensed vocational nurse at Hermann hospital in Houston, TX. Sherri worked as an LPN until 1991 when she obtained her registered nurse license from OLOL School of Nursing with honors.
She was a stalwart champion of those with little voice in their healthcare, working as a psychiatric nurse, then becoming certified in geriatrics in 1998. She led the nursing care at several nursing home facilities in the Baton Rouge area, then moved to being an inspector for the Department of Health and Hospitals to ensure the best care for the infirmed.
Sherri was devoted in her faith, leaning on God through many ongoing health problems. In her Bible the book of Psalms was decorated with dates, thoughts, and highlights in search of God’s promises of strength and healing.
Her daughter will forever treasure the lessons Sherri taught in having a strong work ethic, compassionate care in nursing, and winning at Chinese checkers. Some of the best memories were playing board games and going to Tennessee where communing with nature and spending time by the streams and tributaries spoke to their hearts.
A memorial service is scheduled for March 2, 2024, at 4:00pm at the Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Reverend Donnie Wilkinson will officiate. Following the service, a gathering will be held for friends and family to share memories and celebrate her life and the impact she had on all of us.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to either Broadmoor United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choosing. Your support and generosity in honoring Sherri's memory is greatly appreciated.
