Shirley Dean Martin May

Shirley Dean Martin May, beloved wife, mother, and cherished educator, passed away on November 5, 2024. She was a devoted follower of Christ, whose faith guided her in all aspects of her life.

Shirley enjoyed a fulfilling career as a teacher and school administrator in Ascension Parish, where she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with her kindness and dedication. Her love for education was matched only by her love for her family.

Shirley is preceded in death by her son, Nicky May, as well as her parents, Henry and Mary Martin. She is survived by her loving husband, Steve May, Sr.; her son, Steven May, Jr. and his wife, Kay; and her grandchildren, Kellie, Amanda, and Nathan. She is also survived by her sister, Lucy Gautreaux and her husband Jewell, along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

Shirley's warmth, compassion, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held at Ascension Baptist Church on November 8, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with the funeral service starting at 11:00 am.
