After a long battle with cancer and other resulting illnesses, Steven Gayle Baker, more affectionately known by many as “House,” passed away on October 24th, 2023 at home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was 41 years old. Steven leaves behind quite a legacy—one that is filled with unimaginable stories of strength, ridiculous amounts of laughter, and a fierce love for all those he cared for. His larger than life stature truly matched his larger than life personality. To know him was to love him.
Steven was a 1st degree blackbelt in Taekwondo, and a 2001 graduate of St. Amant high school where he not only gave his teachers and coaches a run for their money, but he played football, did powerlifting, and participated in track and field. After high school, he briefly went to Southeastern Louisiana University where he walked onto their football team, but suffered a knee injury early on that took him out of the game. He briefly worked for the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office before finding his niche working in security in the Baton Rouge nightlife and entertainment industry. This further exemplifies his natural knack for connecting with people and making them feel safe and protected, all the while being a jokester and being the sole source of entertainment himself.
Steven is survived by his stepdad that he affectionately referred to as his dad, Thomas Stafford of Baton Rouge, LA. He also leaves behind a sister that he fiercely loved and protected, Lindsay Leah Baker of Carville, LA. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Baker-Stafford of Baton Rouge, LA., his father Jeffrey Steven Baker of Jacksonville, Florida, maternal grandparents Floyd and Dora Mae Fonte of St. Amant, LA., and paternal grandfather Wallace Baker of Denham Springs, LA. Cremation services are being provided by Church Funeral Services in St. Amant, LA. A Celebration of Life and interment at Resthaven in Baton Rouge, LA. will both be arranged by the family at a later date.
