Sylvia Carruth Gardenhire

A ceremony celebrating the life of Sylvia Carruth Gardenhire will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, July 19, 2019 at Journey Church, 17407 Greenwell Springs Road, Greenwell Springs, LA; visitation will begin at 12:30. Officiating the service will be Pastor Jay Coleman and Ryan Williams. Mrs. Gardenhire was born in Summit, MS on February 26, 1943 and departed this life on July 7, 2019 at her residence in Baton Rouge. She was a retired bookkeeper, graduate from Mars Hill High School in 1960 and attended Southwest MS Junior College where she played on the woman basketball team. She was an avid fan of LSU Women’s basketball team, enjoyed reading and loved her family dearly. She is preceded in death by her mother Mellgwin Hewitt Pate, her father Leslie Edwin Carruth, stepfather Joseph Lee Pate, husband Henry Clay Gardenhire III; brothers Leslie “Butch” Edwin Carruth Jr, and James Eugene “Jimmy” Carruth. Survivors include her sons Henry Clay Gardenhire IV and wife Sonya McCurdy Gardenhire, Christopher Gardenhire; sister Kate Pate Slonaker and her husband Randy Slonaker; grandchildren Merydyan Ponthier, Henry Clay Gardenhire V, and Ramie Gardenhire; great grandchildren Jayson Ponthier, Gracie Clay Ponthier, Henry Clay Gardenhire VI and Bentley Yawn.
