Verla Mae Rushing

Verla Mae Bourg Rushing, 82, slipped peacefully into the arms of her Savior on February 12, 2024, her long battle with dementia and cancer finally over.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald, and her sister Patty.  Donald and Verla have two children, Chris (Jill) and Lynn Swetledge (Frank).  She adored her three grandchildren, Trevor (Sara Beth) and Maddie Rushing (fiancé’ Micah), and Allison Kelley (Stephen), but even on her bleakest day, those great grands, Aubrey Jo and Brant, would bring a smile to her face.

In heaven, she’s now enjoying a reunion with her parents, J.H. “Buster” and Esther Bourg and sisters Pansy and Lee.

Her life was a hallmark of Christian faith.  She believed in living out her walk to the fullest, and occasionally using words when necessary.  Her spiritual, social and even her work life centered around Judson Baptist Church.  Her only job outside of the home was teaching three-year-old preschool at the JBC Caring & Learning Center for several years.  She and Donald volunteered for many mission trips to build or rebuild churches and provide disaster relief.  They even served meals in New York after 9/11.

She enjoyed working in the yard and quilting.  She made numerous quilts over the years, some of which adorn her casket.  Most of them were given away to friends or family.

Her greatest desire in life was that everyone come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.   She would ask that everyone reading this be sure and settle that in their hearts, even today.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Judson Baptist Church, 32470 Walker Rd N, Walker, LA on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 9AM until NOON.  The Funeral Service will begin at NOON and the burial will follow in the church cemetery.
