Vernon J. Broussard Jr. (Vernon Joe, Tug)
Vernon Joseph Broussard, Jr. returned to our Heavenly Father, accompanied by the Angels, on November 30, 2023, at his childhood home, surrounded by those who loved him. He was a native of Baton Rouge, a graduate of Redemptorist High School and Louisiana State University. He worked at the Law Library at Southern University, the Louisiana Dept. of Corrections, and most recently, retired from the Louisiana Division of Administration. Vernon had a playful personality and was known to be quite a jokester. He also was a talented cook and often shared his food with family, friends, and co-workers.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Miranne Broussard, children Matthew and Rachel (Sanasha); sisters – Mima Mathews (Ronnie), Catherine Broussard, Marie Landry, Geralyn Broussard, Amy Echols (Jeff); brothers – Gerard Broussard (Patricia) and John Broussard. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends who loved him dearly. Preceded in death by his parents, Vernon J. Broussard, Sr, and Mirza Broussard.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Visitation is scheduled from noon until 1:30 p.m. with a funeral Mass following at 1:30 p.m. celebrated by Fr. Martin Lawrence. In remembrance of Vernon, the family asks that you bring a framed photo of your favorite memory with him to be displayed. Burial will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, at St. Gabriel Church cemetery in St. Gabriel, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends of Vernon Joe who would prefer to provide a memorial contribution may do so. The family will use these to honor Vernon Joe’s life and memory. Please continue to keep the family in your thoughts throughout this challenging time.
