Wayne Oliver Bennett

Wayne Oliver Bennett, a native of Duck Hill, MS and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 at the age of 83.  Wayne was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He is survived by his wife, Alice Bennett; children, Jason Lamar Bennett, Darlene Gurka, Susan Smith (Flint), Larry Norman (Susan); sister, Voncile Smith; grandchildren, Josh Norman (Amber), Jamen Smiley (Jamie), Joseph Bennett Jr., Louis Gurka, Laura Babin (David), Brandy Smith, Brittany Smith, Brianna Smith, Brooke Smith; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Elise Rice and Dale L. Bennett; son, Joseph Wayne Bennett as well as numerous siblings.  A visitation will be held on Thursday November 11, 2021, at Lanier Baptist Church (4851 Lanier Dr, Baton Rouge, LA 70812) from 9 until funeral service at 11am officiated by Pastor Mike Ferguson.  Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Baker, LA.  Larry Norman, Josh Norman, Chet Shermer, Aaron Shermer, Jason Bennett, and Arthur Rogers will serve as pallbearers.  The family would like to express their deep gratitude for the compassion and care given by Audubon Hospice nurses and staff.
