Born 12/30/1922 in Madison, MS, died 02/09/2020 at his home in Denham Springs, LA, surrounded by his family. Bill graduated from Millsaps College and L.S.U. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He retired from Ethyl Corporation and the USAF as a Major. Bill was an active member of Blackwater United Methodist Church for many years. He was also active in the Boy Scouts for a long period of time. His passion was woodworking and he also enjoyed stamp collecting.
Survived by his wife, Myrlene McDanell Axtell, his daughters, Gemmill “Gemmie” Axtell Burbank, and Abby Axtell Weinstein, and his son-in-law, Barry Weinstein; his children by choice, Frank Mobley, Randy Mobley, Brenda Mobley McDonald and Wayne McDonald; his grandchildren, Bonnie Ford (Bruce), Justin Mobley, Brandy Singleton (Matt), Brandon Mobley, James Mobley, Michael McDonald and his fiance’, Brianna Waguespack, Erin Mobley, and Andrew McDonald, plus 9 great grandchildren; his dearly loved sisters- in- law, Beth Wilson and Wilma Partrige, and a special brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Partrige. He is predeceased by his parents, Amy Gallagher Axtell and Harry C. Axtell; his brother, John C. Axtell and his wife, Mildred, his sister, Wilna Axtell Ates and her husband Billy; a much loved granddaughter, Ashley Mobley, a son-in-law, Ray Reeves, and brothers-in-law, George McDanell and his wife Martha, Dale McDanell, and Jesse Wilson.
Visitation and Memorial Service will be at Blackwater United Methodist Church, 10000 Blackwater Road, Baker (Central City) LA 70714, on Saturday, 2/15/2020. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., with Memorial Service immediately following. The Reverend Pattye Hewitt and Brother Charles “Chuck” Lee, who was like a son to Bill, will conduct the service.
