Yvonne Monna Austin, age 90, of Scott, Arkansas passed away on November 24, 2024. She was born in Scott, Mississippi on July 10, 1934 to parents George W. Shumaker and Havannah Cox.
Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl Jimmie Austin; son Mark Austin; grandson Clint Austin; four sisters Juanita Goodwin, Thelma Allen, Arlene Gilbert, Mary Cook; three brothers Gregory Shumaker, Ezra Shumaker, and Raymond Shumaker.
She is survived by two children Phillip Austin and Denise (Russ) Caughron; grandchildren Felicia Austin, Josh (Stacie) Murphy, Tory (Tyler) Chapman, Logan (Brittney) Caughron, Anthony Austin, and Margaret Austin; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Yvonne Austin dearly loved her family and embraced everyone she met with a warmth that never knew a stranger. Her sweet and caring spirit drew people to her, making her a beacon of love and kindness in her community.
As a devoted wife to her husband of 41 years, Yvonne was a steadfast partner in life and ministry. Known to most as Sister Austin, she served faithfully as a minister’s wife for 39 years. Together, their ministry touched and transformed countless lives, leaving a lasting impact on everyone they served.
For over 20 years, Yvonne also poured her heart into caregiving, offering personal and loving care to those in need. Her reputation for compassion led many to request and recommend her, knowing she would treat each individual with dignity and grace.
Yvonne’s love for God shaped every part of her life. She was committed to daily prayer and cherished her Bible, filling it with notes as she faithfully studied the Word. Her unshakable trust in God’s faithfulness was her anchor, carrying her through life’s challenges and to her eternal reward.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 11:00am with funeral service starting at 12:00pm at Souls Harbor United Pentecostal Church; 113 Slocum Rd, Calhoun, Louisiana 71225. Graveside to follow at Chatham Cemetery in Chatham, Louisiana.
